During his time at Durham University Charlie studied Social Sciences and built The Tab Durham into one of The Tab’s most successful local student news sites as Editor.
Joining The Tab in October 2014, as one of the first employees on the commercial team, Charlie led The Tab to be one of the earliest publishers in the digital media industry. His initial success was due to the development of a branded content focused business model resulting in the signing of the company’s first major brand advertising clients. In July 2015, The Tab raised $3m in a seed round led by Balderton Capital, Europe’s largest Venture Capital fund, to expand into the US and Charlie was promoted to Chief Operating Officer.
In December 2016, Tab Media raised $6m in a Series A round led by Rupert Murdoch’s News UK to fund further expansion into the US and the development of new youth media brands such as babe.
As COO at Tab Media, Charlie has driven 300% revenue growth in 2 years and has grown the commercial and operations team in the US and UK from 2 people to more than 16. Tab Media now works with advertisers such as ASOS, Spotify, JPMorgan, EY, Natwest, Vodafone, Apple Music, Tinder, Bumble, Red Bull, Deliveroo, and Soundcloud.
Charlie is responsible for Tab Media’s revenue strategy and operations, and works alongside the Senior Management Team on the company’s wider vision and strategy. He also advises and mentors 2-3 early-stage start-up founders at a time and speaks at industry conferences and corporate events.
